Gladstone and Gilmour bikeway open house
After years of advocacy, a plan for a Gladstone/Gilmour bike lane is finally out for public consultation! Fill out the survey and let the city know what you think. The goal was to implement a path for safe cycling, while also ensuring that the 14 bus is not slowed down.
In June 2023, residents rallied in support of cycling safety, after a horrible accident profoundly injured a woman at the intersection of Gladstone and Rochester. Nicole Grendell was there, holding a photo of her son Jean-Pierre, who was killed at the same intersection 20 years ago.
City staff asked me if we would rather wait 20 years for a full reconstruction of the road and the installation of raised cycle tracks or implement what we could ASAP. This plan is not perfect, but it is so much safer than what we have now and will eventually be upgraded when the road is rebuilt. This plan will also remove Gladstone as a truck route in Ottawa’s transportation network – a huge victory.
The city will be hosting an open house about the project on Wednesday, September 17 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre (290 Lisgar Street) in Woodside Hall.

Bay Street integrated renewal open house
The Bay Street integrated renewal project involves watermain and sewer replacement, as well as complete road reconstruction including sidewalks. The project’s scope will include speed management features and active transportation improvements within the municipal right of way. Additionally, the Bay Street/Somerset Street intersection will be upgraded to a fully signalized intersection.

Bike Info booth
Stop by Bronson and Albert on September 18th and chat with staff from EnviroCentre! These pop-ups are happening around the city at protected intersections as part of the Cycling Safety Awareness Program (CSAP).
Protected intersections provide additional safety and security not only to vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists) but also to motorists, and these CSAP booths will help provide more
information about how they work through an interactive booth display. Staff at the “Bike Info” booth will also have information about other cycling safety infrastructure (such as yellow dots), as well as maps, lights and bells for cyclists.
Location: Albert and Bronson
Date: Thursday, September 18th
Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
Please note that this could be cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather and may be cancelled due to other unforeseen circumstances.
